When we think about the future of MMOs, we usually focus on the backstory and gameplay -- or more recently, how single-shard technology might change the nature of the genre. Less discussed are the innovations in artificial intelligence which will utterly alter the game worlds in which we’ll soon play.
At the end of April, a discussion took place on a private channel on the Seed Discord server between eleven group leaders and spokespeople, to discuss their plans - as well as their opinions of each other. And while the group conversation started cordially enough, rifts and secret plots soon emerged.
Although Seed is yet to have an official launch date, the Seed Discord server has attracted a thriving community of members, whose enthusiasm for the game’s progress has left the development team in awe, as would-be players avidly discuss the game features they most want to see, and even join player-created factions with competing plans to colonize the new world, the very moment that they can.
The possibility of religious and spiritual expression in the world of Seed has been brought up by some members of the player community, and whether it would be player-created or designed into the game as an official feature. While it's still uncertain whether it will become an official gameplay mechanic, it's likely religious belief will arise simply due to Seed's unique server architecture as an MMO.
